I've got a slightly modded 1484. The head has been rehoused in a solid pine cab, the original cab is really awful. The original reverb has been removed and a short reverb tank installed in its place. Also, the tremolo, which is fantastic on these amps, has been modded to be able to have a wider speed range. Basically, it's an old amp that's been updated to be gig ready, though I hardly ever take it out of my house. Here's some links to a few clips I made.

Hi!

I am the proud owner of a 1485 Silvertone Amp! I have a problem though. Long story short, the speaker cabinet ended up falling apart. My very kind amp/guitar gurus at Guitar Pickers in Scottsdale (Doug and Sherlin), have reconstructed the cabinet in amazing, perfect fashion. But we can’t find anything close to the original wallpaper like covering.

Do you have any suggestions?

Thanks very much!

Unbelievably, I have acquired both the Silvertone that is the subject of this article and the VALCO SUPRO THUNDERBOLT, just recently. I mean like last week. The kicker is I wasn't looking for them; never heard of them actually. In fact I only just took up the guitar less then a year ago and have been practicing through a Roland Micro Cube. I'm having them looked at right now. The techs response when he saw them, "these are in really good shape". I may be interested in selling them. Once they are back I'm happy to take as many photos as necessary, maybe even do a little video if someone wants to hear what they sound like.

Thanks for that...i was almost ready to begin the whole tedious (but eminently enjoyable) oddballamp-schematic lookup-layout and build process for the 1484, but since i cant stand the sound of anything lou reed ever recorded, i'll skip it...maybe do another SOUND CITY instead : )

Each channel has two inputs. Plug your instrument into the first jack of channel one and a guitar cord into the second jack of channel one and plug the other end into the left jack of channel two. The shorter the cord the better and make sure it is shielded. Another way is to use a 'Y' cord with one female 1/4 inch and two 1/4 in male plugs. Plug the guitar into the female jack and plug the male plugs into the amp, one on each channel. One way is series and the other is parallel. One way gives more clean power and the other gives more distortion but I can't remember which is which. It's been a long time since I've used mine. I may get it out and clean it up as soon as I have a few days to spare. Usually what I would do is plug my guitar into channel two and use the volume and tone of channel one to overdrive the input. Also, some of these amps were made with a 1 ohm resistor soldered to one of the pins on each of the 6L6 tube sockets with the other end going to chassis ground. This limited the current of the output tubes and reduced power to eliminate feedback and/or distortion. You can wire this pin straight to chassis thus bypassing the 1 ohm resistor if so equipped. If there is a pin already going to the chassis then the amp is at it's full potential and was one of the ones produced without the one ohm resistor.
