I have a LA-100R. 8 tubes, pair of 6973 output tubes. twin Jenson 12″ speakers. Anyone ever heard of this one?

I have one of these. the problem with it is the trem lasts about 5 sec. then just dies. can you tell me what sort of trem it uses so I can trouble shoot it? thanks

It’s a long story. I bought a Lafayette 75 used in 1965 along with an unknown brand guitar. 25 years later, I gave the amp and guitar to an aunt that enjoyed playing. I didn’t know, but she gave the amp to a nephew. Years later he found out that I was looking for an amp, and he called to tell me he had my old amp. So it came home about three years ago with a new speaker. I replaced the electrolytic capaciors and now enjoy using it occasionally for practice. I probably paid more for the replacement capacitors than I paid when I first bought this. When it’s time to pass it along again, it’ll probably go back to the cousin that had it for so long.

This amp wails! I fixed one for a friend of mine that had a blown speaker. I squeezed a Vintage 30 in it and put in some JJ EL84’s. It has really sweet compression and sounds great. Incidentally I just played the new Fender Excelsior combo which is almost the exact same circuit, but it has 6V6 power tubes. It’s not quite the same, but has the vibe for under $300 and it’s brand new.

Hey Rob, thanks for the great write-up on the LA-75. My buddy has a small 60’s Supro and when I went hunting for something similar, I found this LA-75. Had never heard of it, but then I found your article. Thanks for all the info.

I picked mine up for $269, it is not a looker due to cosmetic damage, but it wails.
