It is fantastic to see another of these rare 'birds!

I bought a Firebird 500 in 1988, pawned it in 1995 (hard times) and was unable to get it out of hock. In '98 I began a search for a replacement. Even at the dawn & rise or the internet it took me 12 years to find another for sale. It of course had the bent posts that all Steinberger KB trem, a stripped string adjuster and was missing the fine tuning screws and bridge saddles.

Pro tip: A nice guy named Bernd who has a love of vintage Epi's had the same issues with the bridge. He solved the issues by having the parts custom milled out of stainless steel! He made a few extras and sells them (until he runs out). Also, I understand some folks have drilled out the posts from the back side of the bridge and replaced them with screws...

If you are interested in how to set the bridge up (or if he still has them purchase parts) check out Bernd's website:

well, in defense of Gibson, they can copy themselves since they own the Epiphone brand or trademark, so I don't think they are "egregious copyists" at all. If you have it, you flaunt it. Toot your own horn, so to speak. What is really egregious is the invasion of Fender Strat copies being sold everywhere, even at Walmart. With the help of your local Craigslist and worldwide eBay, these copies are sold bypassing US Customs. Worse still, headstock logo decal reproductions of Fender, Hofner, Gibson, and you name it, are sold without any fear of prosecution. If you are the parent of a young kid who wants his first "Fender", chances are you'll buy a copy of a Fender Strat with a copy headstock decal.
