I went to an Albert Lee guitar clinic (legend!) a couple years ago and he claimed that he bought a Gibson Black Beauty LP and a Supro Thunderbolt over from the states. Lee showed it to Page who then 'apparently' went and bought an identical rig (although he used a tele on the first two Zep records). :-)

I have an H-420 and would like to know what minor changes you performed in the pre-amp section. I also own a Supro Corsica that some one moded to run with a 6L6 and different rectifier tube. Thank's

I've owned 2 of these thunderbolts (Paid $1200 dead mint, $900 near mint) and a Harmony 525 ($650 good condition. apparently the price has gone up in 6 years). With your eyes closed they sound almost the same. The 525 had more range from bass to high while the thunderbolts were just slightly better in the middle. With bass and treble turned up these amps sound like they are straight out of the 1960s. Beautiful, very full unique tones. If you are looking for something a little different than everyone else, definately pick up one of these.

Really? I've got two 1964 Thunderbolts here now, an Airline and a Supro. They sound a lot like any other 6L6 amp cranked except the stupid tone control which was designed to somehow
simultaneously reduce bass and increase brightness as you turn it. As a result, when the tone is cranked you end up with a very thin tone. If you want to play rhythm guitar with a neck pickup, this might work for you, but otherwise it's ice pick city.
