I think the ideal beginners kit is a cheap electric guitar and amp. Acoustic guitar strings are often tough to use until proper strength and technique is developed. Electric strings, depending on the gauge, will be easier to learn with. Another reason to go for the electric/amp combo is that the user may be able to use different effects to achieve the type of music their trying to learn. Additionally, get a guitar tuner and learn to use it even before you try to play a single note. Go get yourself learnin'!

Great information! I would also like to add that if your just starting out, or if your just trying to buy a new guitar in general, it's a great idea to check the action and setup of the guitar before taking it home. Even though your buying from a music store, it is always a good idea to do this because with so many guitars, most stores do not have people that go around and inspect every guitar for the best setup! Its also worth mentioning that if you check the guitar out and you don't like what you see, the store should have a tech that will do the adjustments for free since you are buying from them. Anyway, for more guitar playing tips check out my blog at http://onlineleadguitarlessons.com
Hope to see you there!
