Amazing, I had a 3/4 Musicmaster nearly identical to the pic, though mine had a white (ish) pickguard, but the same knurled barrel knobs, which I bought used from my guitar teacher 'long about '69. I sold it to a friend years later, who really clobbered it, cut a new pickguard out of some plexiglass stock, put a gibson humbucker (which clearly totally doesn't fit string spacing, etc). The instrument came back into my hands awhile back, and i plan on refurbing it a bit for my daughter. Wish I knew where to get a replica pickguard...

Great story. When I was about 13, the school band was going to play a concert in our small auditorium. The director had chosen a piece that required an electric guitar. All I owned was a cheap Sears acoustic. But, I had learned various chords from friends and had played along with records. I casually mentioned it at the dinner table that evening..I knew my parents couldn't afford an electric guitar (or an amp). Apparently, they understood how important this was to me. A few days later, I was playing basketball on the neighbor's driveway when my dad came home from work. He opened the back door of the car and pulled out a guitar case. I may have set a speed record that day. He asked me to grab something else out of the car, a used Fender Vibro-Champ! When I opened the guitar case, there was a used, red Fender Music Master (short scale, but I didn't know or care about scale lengths at 13).. I couldn't believe it. I can barely remember how the concert went. But, I'll never forget the my dad came home with that guitar and amp. I don't know who looked happier, me or my parents. It was very special. I still own both. I have a few other guitars and amps, but none will ever take top-billing over that used Vibro-Champ and Music Master.

Cool story bro. I still have my very first Fender, a JP-90 bass that I took a year to pay off. It was brand new, the model just coming out the month before and to this day its one of the easiest Fenders I've had the pleasure to play. The next is fast, the body light and the sound good and punchy, just a great bass to play.

The first Fender I had was a Squire. Not sure of it's age, but its was well used. Probably very late '50's or very early 60's. Traded up, plus some cash for '63 about 1966. Telecaster about 1966. The Squire was my first GREAT guitar. I should have kept it, and just bought the Telecaster. Oh well, I was young and 1/2 foolish.
No one had and credit or real money back then.
