Just before I found this aryicle, I was thinking of the song ‘Crying To The Sky’.
Lot’s of good Be Bop out there but Crying and Modern Music are my faves.

For Wayne Brownell (above), You probably already know that “Crying to the Sky is Bill’s favorite guitar work of his (I’ve read.) I, personally, can listen to Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape from the Live! In the Air Age over and over! That guitar solo! I sit in my car and crank the volume up as high as it will go, close my eyes and absorb! I consider Bill Nelson perhaps the greatest electric guitarist ever recorded, except, for the exception of Chet Atkins.

Listening to “Sunburst Finish” this afternoon and thinking back to college days. Still remember as a freshman entering a frat house I had considered pledging. I walked up stairs where the brother’s bedrooms were. The hallway was dark and all the doors were closed but as I wandered a bit further my ears heard the muffled sounds of “Fair Exchange” behind one of the doors. I opened it and found several kindred spirits and place which I would call home for several years.

Lost interest for while after “Red Noise” but surprisingly that album sounds great today.

It’s a shame Bill Nelson never received the commercial success he deserved. A brilliant guitarist.

BTW I still have the “Live in the Air Age” LP somewhere with the white EP 🙂

the first song I ever heard from bill nelson was “stage whispers”, and from that point on I knew I was hooked on this musician of great talent. “crying to the sky” is perhaps the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard. bill is one of the greatest “axe victims” of all time. simply awe-inspiring guitar solos.

I am listening to the “Live! In the Air Age” CD as I type this. To this day I have never heard any other guitarist who sounds quite like Bill Nelson. I’ve heard music theorists call it modal playing, but it is more than that. His leads reach into your soul the way few guitarists can.

Bill is my all time musical hero and I was extremely fortunate to win his self designed Eastwood (drawings and signatures) guitar at Nelsonica09. There was a photograph taken for Eastwood of Bill presenting the guitar to me although I have never seen it.

For anyone out there who has never heard Bill do yourself the biggest you possibly could and check him out at billnelson.com

Bill Nelson is one of the greatest inspirations of all time!

And he’s one of the nicest blokes in music!

His Be Bop Deluxe work still stands the test of time, but his solo work is even better. You young’uns better do some homework and listen to a true artist!
