Bravo for mentioning John Cippolina. Met him waiting to go on at a club in Berkeley and he explained to me how he used a nickle, cupped on top with a ball peen hammer under his Bigsby spring to keep it stable. A really nice guy.

John Cipolina easily earns top bigsby spot. That’s the most masterful use of a vibrato bar on record. Duane Eddy? Cliff Gallup? Reverend Horton Heat? The Arkhams (bobcat) All these guys utilize their bigsby vibrato more than most of whom got listed here. I can’t think of a single rolling stones recording where there is any bigsby use, same goes for Led Zeppelin.

I’ve gotta give a shout out to Retro Tonez. I roadyed for the Dead and Quicksilver thru the Pacific Northwest in the mid 60s and John Cipollina truly made his SG “sing”. Thanks for the memory Tonez!

A lot of names, a lot of cool guitars… to many to choices to cover adequately, but very cool indeed none-the-less!
I do agree that “Old Black” should have received a little attention… after all, old warhorses deserve some recognition too.
Jimmy’s Black Beauty made the top of the list here though, and I’m OK with that 🙂
